A Storytelling and Art Celebration at the Latchis Theater
– Brattleboro, VT
Presented by Indivisible Brattleboro
About Us
Indivisible Brattleboro is a grassroots network of neighbors working to protect and strengthen our democracy through civic engagement, public events, and community action. We believe that art is essential for building solidarity, telling the truth, and inspiring action.
About the Event
This will be a one-night celebration of democracy through visual art, performance, and storytelling that addresses the question, What Does Democracy Look Like? The event will feature:
A gallery exhibition of visual art
Stage performances of spoken word, storytelling, theater, and music.
A moderated community discussion
Creative audience participation.
Artistic Parameters
We invite artists working in any medium — visual, literary, or performance — to submit works that respond to the central question:
What does democracy look like?
This isn’t a literal question. It could be as much about what democracy feels like or sounds like. It’s as much about community as politics. We welcome works that celebrate, question, grieve, protest, or reimagine.
Visual works must be ready to hang or display. The artist is responsible for all display needs and must conform with whatever guidelines are provided by the Latchis Theater.
Performances should last about 5 minutes.
Works must be original to and created by the submitting artist(s).
Artists must be available for installation/performance on the event date, Sunday, November 16th.
All pieces must be consistent with Brattleboro Indivisible’s core norms of respect, responsibility, and resilience, and fostering inclusive participation.
